Deer Park School District's Board of Directors announced the selection of Dr. Alexa Allman as the district’s next superintendent during the regular meeting of the board on Monday, April 10, 2023.
Dr. Allman, who is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent in Deer Park, is expected to take over as Superintendent on July 1, 2023, replacing departing Superintendent Travis Hanson who has accepted a similar position in the Mead School District. Following its unanimous vote, the board will now commence with contract negotiations.
“In everything she has done while working in Deer Park, Dr. Allman has demonstrated that she is capable and fully committed to taking this district forward,” said Board President Eric Keller. “The feedback we received from stakeholders was clear. Our community wants a competent administrator who shares their values and leads with passion. Dr. Allman is open and approachable, she is a strong communicator, and she wants to invest in this community. We’ve had a chance to get to know and experience her leadership over the past two years, and there’s no doubt she’s the right leader for Deer Park.”
Prior to serving as assistant superintendent in Deer Park (overseeing teaching and learning and human resources), Dr. Allman worked in a district-level HR specialist role for six years and was also a building administrator (principal & asst. principal) at both the elementary and middle school levels for thirteen years in the Bellevue School District. Originally from Yakima, Alexa and her husband Kevin, have two children, Maya (18) and Dain (14).
“We are so fortunate to have an incredible individual like Alexa in our district office. This community wants someone who is actively engaged – Alexa has been engaged from the first day she arrived in Deer Park. When we invite her to an event or ask her to come, she shows up!” Board member Lindsay Lofstrom said. “It’s one thing to say that you love being in Deer Park, but I really felt it and knew that it was heartfelt and true after speaking with her references. I asked those people if they would hire her again and the answer was always, ‘Absolutely!’ However, each of them shared that it was clear she wasn’t leaving. Each of them said that she loves the community and shared how much she was enjoying being in Deer Park.”
The Board of Directors will begin contract negotiations immediately. Current Superintendent Travis Hanson will continue in the role until June 30, 2023
